Silica Shells are hollow ellipsoids of highly porous Silica with an average particle size of 3 microns and refractive index 1.47. They can absorb up to 5 times their own weight of liquid. Silica Shells can be preloaded with volatile liquids to prevent absorption of formulation ingredients; the volatile material evaporates when applied on the skin, leaving Silica Shells empty and available to absorb sebum.
